The conservative falsehood that nefarious progressive influences are “turning” kids gay and/or trans is nothing new. However, right-wing commentator James Lindsay recently took things a step further, claiming that doctors are now using sonograms to attempt to discover whether or not a fetus is queer.
Lindsay brought up this bizarre, unsubstantiated concept during a January 24 appearance on the right-wing podcast Calmversations, calling it “Neonatal Queer Theory.”
“They’re using sonograms to determine if your child is queer in the womb… This is some Ivy League bullshit,” he said in a clip from the episode, which was shared by the X account Mythinformed and first reported by LGBTQ Nation. “What they’re trying to do there is brainwash the parents to bring up the children in a queer-accessible environment, so that scripting into sex category never properly occurs.”
Lindsay went on to claim that leftist activists are using this practice to “hijack” child development and advance “the whole cult dynamic” of the LGBTQ+ community.
